Little Blue Dress

Business Formal with a Navy Dress

Happy Friday, everyone! I am so excited for this weekend, and ready to get these next couple weeks going. So many big things! Next week, I am getting my wisdom teeth removed – not exciting, no, but something that’s been on my radar for a while. Ready for that to be over. In a little over two weeks, I’ll be closing on my house (YAY!!) and finally getting going on our remodeling plans. I feel like we’ve been waiting forever so I can’t wait to get rolling on that. And then a few weeks after that, I’m going on a cruise! I’ve never been on a cruise before, do you have any tips or tricks for how to make the most of it? We’re leaving out of Fort Lauderdale and hitting Labadee, Haiti, Falmouth Jamaica, and Cozumel, Mexico. It’s going to be great to relax after the crazy month I’m about to have!

The outfit I’m sharing today is another business formal outfit. I’m all about buying basics that fit great, and mixing and matching those with some fun accessories. This navy blue empire-waist dress I bought my Sophomore year of college on Black Friday… from Forever 21! YES, you can find business appropriate things at F21 (who would have thought?!) It’s a surprisingly thick and nice material and is LINED – I know, I was shocked too. It’s sleeveless and looks great with a sweater or blazer, or even without in warm climates! I wore this to my career fair my senior fall – which takes place in early September at Cornell, and it was literally 90 degrees and humid. The career fair was in the un-air conditioned field house: imagine hundreds of students and recruiters all in suits running around sweating. It was horrible – I was glad to be without sleeves that day. It came with this classic red leather belt, which I’ve worn with a lot of other outfits as well. Bonus!

Because it is not 90 degrees out here, I’m wearing a blazer on top – yes the same blazer I’m always raving about. Ya gotta have a good blazer, I’m telling you! I can also see this being paired with some navy tights for extra warmth. I was lucky to take these photos indoors – thank goodness. For shoes, I’m wearing my navy pumps. I know that finding (cute) navy shoes is really hard, so when you find a pair I highly recommend snagging them. It’s nice to have an alternative from nude shoes when you’ve got navy on. I’ve finished this whole outfit off with some oversized silver accessories – big pearl earrings and my watch. Tag some red lipstick on and you’re good to go. So easy, so chic!
