Have any big meetings coming up? That presentation you need to nail? Just want to feel stylish and in charge? Time to SUIT UP with a modern take on the power suit. Everyone needs to wear a full suit at some time in their career; for some, it’s every day in a business formal workplace, but for even those in the most casual work environments, you’ll probably need it for interviews, client presentations, or meetings with executives.
For my updated suiting, I’m throwing in a little pattern and a unique neutral. The overall effect is still very conservative and tasteful, but more modern. My top is a simple black pinstripe shell; this is very comfortable and doesn’t need to be dry cleaned (thank goodness). The purpose of this is to add just a little bit of pattern and interest into the top without drowning in a bright or loud jackets. On top of this, I’m wearing my basic black blazer. I cuffed the sleeves to give a pop of white, and the inside pattern happens to be pinstripes as well, just inverted colors from my top. It’s all in the details! For jewelry, I opted out of a big watch or statement necklace, though you certainly could wear either with this outfit for some sparkle. I decided to go for a more conservative, but still fun, pair of earrings. These oversize flowers have a dark grey metal, so they aren’t so bright and in your face (OK, literally they are, but you know what I mean). Your outfit should bring the attention up to your face, but not distract – you have important things to say!!
For some color, I am wearing my fave olive pants. (Do I wear these too much? Probably.) Olive is such a great but forgotten neutral! These pants go with everything and are honestly one of the most versatile, but interesting pieces I have. These are definitely work appropriate and can add a pop to any outfit. Seriously, go buy a pair! For shoes, I am wearing an older pair of chunky black heels. These are so so comfortable, but still conservative. You can definitely swap these out for more daring heels, or flats. I am carrying my classic black work bag, which holds all the junk I haul around… which is a lot. Every working woman needs a great work bag! (I just got a new one!!) FINALLY, I’ve got a little bit of red lipstick on – ready to take on the world!
